After much anticipation, Android users in Vietnam can finally officially experience Sora, an AI video creation application from OpenAI, for free. In addition to Vietnam, this launch also includes the US, Canada, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Thailand. A few days ago, this application was launched on iOS in Vietnam and quickly achieved many downloads in the first week. By appearing on the Google Play Store, Sora is expected to reach a larger number of users and potentially increase more downloads.
Main features of Sora
The Android version of Sora retains all the same features as the iOS version. This includes the “Cameos” feature, which allows users to use their own images to create videos performing various activities. The videos created can be shared on a feed similar to TikTok, allowing users to discover and interact with other people’s content. This is considered a move by OpenAI to participate in the short video sharing market. The company seems to want to compete with rivals like Meta and existing platforms like TikTok or Instagram.

Content moderation controversies and adjustments
However, the app has faced criticism for how it handles deepfake videos. After its launch, some users uploaded disrespectful videos about historical figures, including Martin Luther King Jr. So last month, Sora paused creating content depicting Dr. King and strengthen control measures.

The company also recently addressed negative feedback surrounding copyrighted characters, such as SpongeBob and Pikachu. OpenAI has changed the policy of the Sora application, moving from an “opt-out” mechanism (allowing use, unless the owner requests to remove it) to an “opt-in” system (only used with the consent of the rights owner).
Upcoming updates planned
OpenAI plans to add new features to Sora in the future. These plans include “character cameos,” which will allow users to create AI videos featuring pets and objects. Basic video editing tools, such as the ability to stitch multiple clips together, are also being developed. Sora also plans to help users customize their social feeds, focusing on content from select individuals rather than from a large audience.
Sora’s presence on the Android platform in Vietnam helps this AI video creation technology reach more users. Although the application has many notable features and a clear development plan, OpenAI still faces challenges related to legal issues and controlling AI-generated content.
